Chapter 1: The Beginning of My Fun Journey Into Hell!

I never planned on working retail at all. I wanted to continue at the job I was at since I was making 8.75 an hour in the two years I worked there. I was an assistant to a successful company, and helped them with research. The same research that gave me empathic abilities, and made me able to read their emotions. Of course, I'll go into detail about it during AngelWitch, my book coming out. They informed me of what I was more than anything. Then, the company was bought out by another and I was laid off. I live in the Crystal Crest realm. After I graduated SouthBend High school I went to a community college. The whole time I was working retail on the weekends, and an extra day during the week. Thirty-two hours, and forget having weekends off since retail has weekends mandatory at times. Those are the busiest times anyway. During the week it’s slow as shit, and Sunday nights suck too. It's the busiest Friday nights, Saturday around noon and 6. Sunday it picks up around 1pm after the church crowd hits. Holidays suck since it means crowds the day before and on the actual holiday. It means there will be constant register calls, and stupid people with stupid questions. I must have a drink sometimes after work to dull their energy signals/emotions I felt from them. Their emotions can leak into you like a virus corrupting everything. Feeling their anger, disgust, and rage can have you feeling drained after eight hours of torment.

I was unemployed for six months after I got laid off, and then I got a job at Kyle’s General Store working retail after I applied to several places. I graduated community college, and then transferred to South Bend University to major in English and minor in History. I live at my apartment off campus and take college classes online. It’s been a wild ride in retail 5 years of it. 5 years of being normal and acting like a normal college student.

My name is Angeline and you will see me in my new book AngelWitch where I finally find my escape from retail, and move on to bigger and better things. This book will have me telling you stories of my time working at Kyle’s in various departments. Retail is not for everyone. Not everyone can handle it. I have long black hair and smoky grey eyes. I’m pale since I don’t get out in the sun much, and to the world I look like a kid since I have a youthful appearance. I have a slim body, and it fits with the Kyle’s General Store outfit. Black shirts with the words Kyle’s General store, and it has to be collared. Black pants even black jeans are allowed. They have added a black vest to the mix so people can identify who works there, but it doesn’t matter. I still have people ask if I work there. There is a name tag on the left side, and it has my nickname Angel for short on it. I love the fact that it’s all black since black is my color. I even wear black eyeshadow and nail polish to match looking like a goth girl.

It’s easy to get a job when you know someone. I got the job thanks to my guardian Kalisa to get away from it all, but that is a story for another time. After completing the personality test thing, which was easy since you pick stuff to indicated you are a people person. Then there are interviews and the drug test afterward. Then you are put in orientation to get to know the company, and then the two days of mind-numbing modules that don't give you real world experience. Of course, when you get on the floor they don't have time to properly train you so then you have to stumble around like an idiot. Then have customers get mad that you don't know everything in the store even though you just started.

I work weekends and working 5 years in retail is slowly killing me. Yes, I make $11.50 an hour since they changed minimum wage in Crystal Crest. The government decided people need more money, and changed it to make lives better. Retail is not for me though. I can’t stand being around managers that run you to the ground. I can’t stand the customers who want you to break rules just for them, and these are the same people who expect to get a gift card just for them waiting around, “wasting their time and expect you to pay them for it.” when you are running other departments as well as yours. Or, they expect to get special service because they spend a ton of money there. I spend money there too, and some people don’t even need the money who work retail do it to have something to do. Even people with one full time job use retail as a part time one to help with expenses.

One guy wanted a discount for checking out at a different register, and when self-checkouts were installed they wanted a discount for that. As if they are more special than everyone else just because they are the customer. Some customers who don’t like self-check complain about not wanting to pay to bag and scan their own groceries as if this job is beneath them. Or if they go to a cashier they complain over their attitude and the way they bag. No winning there.

To me sometimes retail customers are not always right, and sometimes they are assholes that love to pick on the sales person and make their lives hell. So if you thought the customer is always right then this is not the book for you. These stories are a collection of mean customers, stupid customers, and proof why signs have to be put in bold lettering in order for some dumbass to see. I hope you will laugh with me as I go down memory lane to remember the funniest and stupidest people I’ve ever encountered, and I hope my tips at the end will teach you how not to be an asshole to the person behind the counter.

I work in the jewelry area, and everywhere the managers put me since I’m expected to be cross trained in different departments when the stupid computers don’t know how to schedule people. Sometimes I think it’s because managers don’t look behind the computer too, and if they had then maybe the schedule will be different. My job is mainly the jewelry area, and I show people jewelry. I put batteries in watches only the ones we carry in the store, and the same goes for watch bands. That policy is not mine it’s the companies, but it doesn’t stop customers from trying to get us to do it.

I fulfill personal orders like class rings, name plates and personalized jewelry. They are pretty easy to do and the book tells you how to do it. Of course, the customers there treat the employees like they are stupid and dropped out of school. Some of us go to college, have second jobs, or the older crowd enjoys people and wanted to use this job to get out of the house.

Kyle’s General Store is located off Surrey road, and it offers discount products for a good price. Or so they think. The store was built in a really rich neighborhood, and that means the customers have a lot of money to spend. Customers like them expect to be waited on hand and foot like the store is a high end retail store when it’s not. Not even close, and some of them even expect you to be their personal shopper. That's what I hate the most since they act like they can't read the price, and they want you to even help them pick out their own shoes.

They ask questions and don't even bother looking for themselves. They also have to be led to items in front of them, and they can’t bother to look up and see the department has a sign above it stating where they are when it’s right there. They treat the worker like they are unintelligent people, and the customers are the ones that need help using their own card.

Customers expect you to be able to read their mind when they tell you about an item they found at another store. Like one lady asked me if we had a particular item, and I could not find it. When she told me her relative got it at another Kyle’s then I knew we didn’t have it. Or they expect you to walk them to the area if they can’t find an item when it’s right in front of them. Some of the customers are okay with me pointing, and it’s hard to know when it’s okay to point or walk them to the area. If we are out then they expect you to go to the back and get it for them. We are out of some items, and we have no way of ordering more since it’s something out of our control. Then the customer gets mad at us as if it’s our fault.

I try to be nice and smile at the customers since there is a ten foot rule only to be ignored sometimes or even mocked by them. It would be a different story if people were nicer, but some of them are not. They don’t even treat workers like people, and especially some managers for example ones like Alex who called us bodies not people or even workers.

Alex Jones is the manager below the store manager Kyle who has been a pain in my side ever since he started working there. Tall, dark haired, and glacier blue eyes. Always had a scowl on his face, and he was an asshole to people telling them about the ruthless point system when they were genuinely sick. He told me that I should be able to hold it in when I told him I wanted to go home after I caught food poisoning. A ruthless asshole.

What they don’t tell you once you sign up for said job is they will put you wherever they need you. Hell, those idiots move you to where they want you to go, and even if you haven’t been assigned there. Managers will be petty, and assign you to places where they know you don’t like it. Kyle put me on the register so many times that I want to bash his fucking brains in. He is an asshole. He is tan with blonde hair and blue eyes. He looks like he should be out in the sun surfing instead he is making people miserable at Kyle’s. He doesn’t know how to run a store, and he treats those under him like shit. He expects people to kiss his ass just because he oversees the store. He doesn’t schedule enough people, and makes them work multiple departments without help. Kyle’s is a wasteland full of bullshit and misery.

I hate it here since it’s the same old shit day after day, and over the years every day is an ordeal for Kyle and some of the things he does is fucking ridiculous. Kyle gets on the Co-managers, who get on the assistants, and they take it out on the supervisor and then the associates. It’s a vicious cycle, and everyone is stressed out. When corporate comes I know the day is going to be incredibly long since that is when they are the most stressed and horrible to their employees. They complain about stuff not being done when it should have been done weeks ago, and do shit only when the bigwigs are there. It’s bullshit. Like I got in trouble thanks to Ms.Sniffles thinking I need to be more productive with my time, and I work my ass off for the company. It’s not enough for them sometimes they expect us to have super powers when we don’t.

It also doesn’t make any sense to put me on the register when I’m in a sale area, and you can thank asshole Kyle and the customer service people for your wait at the counter. It’s their fault anyway. They are the idiots pulling people out of their departments just because even a person is waiting in line, and they freak out about it for no reason. Apparently the front end is a priority, and they want to get the customers out as fast as possible. Also, we have to listen to the customer service people, and if we don’t then they tell an assistant manager about it as if I was being subordinate when I was one of the ones on the floor helping with the phones. I never forgave him to this day.

The rude and stupid customers make me sick since some of them treat the workers like they are stupid.

One bitch even made fun of my math skills when I have a math disability. I mean come on if you want respect from a sales person how about being nice to the person behind the counter, and if you are then they will treat you with respect. If you treat them like shit then expect to get it in turn. I would never go out of my way for you if you are rude to me. I’ll give you some customer service, but don't expect me to go above and beyond for a rude person.

Customers mess up everything especially after I just cleaned up the area, and I’ve heard a few mothers say, “It’s their job to pick up after us.” When their kid picks up stuff off the floor. I thought people pick up after themselves at least that is what my parents taught me. But apparently, people think a sales persons job is to clean up after adults who should know better. Like a few of the idiots left one of the numbers on the floor, and didn’t pick it up to be nice. Even the daughter just stared at it and left, and I wanted to hit her since it’s not hard to pick something up off the floor. Hell, maybe my old life is better than picking up after idiots.

And then after treating me badly you wonder why you get bad service? How about as a customer when you need assistance don’t treat me like I’m stupid, and I get it I work retail but that doesn’t mean I deserve to be treated like an idiot. Don’t stare at me thinking I am going to automatically know you need help. Speak up and stop treating me like I am incompetent just because you are horrible at communicating what you want.

Some customers can’t describe items worth shit, or they use different terms as if they are more educated than the person working there. It doesn’t make a person smarter it makes them look like a jackass. They also over explain the item to me when they get think I don’t know what they are talking about, and guess what? I don’t one dumbass described it to me silently about undies saying they tuck in like she thought I was a dumbass…Nope. You just suck at explaining. Grunting and showing me what you mean doesn’t help either. And speak clearly and loud enough for me to hear you, and never explain it to me like you think I’m slow. Don’t treat me like I don’t know what an item is just because we don’t have it. A lady and one in a wheel chair were looking for socks, and they were talking to each other rather loudly enough for me to hear them. Guess what they were right by it. But the lady points to me and said in a dramatic way said, “She can help us.” So like a good retail slave I show the idiots the socks even though they were right near it. I show them the brand they were looking for and the wheel chair, “Do you have socks with the waves?” And she continued to describe it to me like I was stupid and had no idea what she was talking about. I told her multiple times if we had it then it would be in the area. I mean if it’s not there then we don’t have it. I can’t pull an item out of my ass that we don’t have. The lady kept explaining it to me over and over again like she thought I didn’t know what she was talking about. Whatever. I just hope the bitches leave before I lose it and yell at them to stop treating me like I’m stupid. That night dealing with those idiots made me want to grab a bottle.

I’ve written down policy changes in the notebooks I carry (which change so fucking often I have to write it down), notes about the job, and some angry customer stories. I want to remember the funny moments, and even the angry customers so I can laugh about them later especially when I leave retail for good.

Retail is not for everyone, and if you don’t have the ability to let shit roll off you then this is not the job for you. I am a sales associate who works everywhere in the apparel area.

I have worked in the fitting room, phones, jewelry, shoes and accessories. I have been working at times throughout all the clothing departments too like: men’s, boys, infants, girls, women's and lingerie. I’ve even helped out in other departments when I’ve needed to such as toys, housewares, lawn and garden even in the meat and frozen food departments.

Some of the stupid managers made me work there since they don’t have enough coverage in other areas, and they are so shorthanded in their areas they can use others too. Part of the reason customers can’t find sales associates in our areas is thanks to the managers. The managers have a stupid habit of pulling people out of their departments, and then get mad when the associates they pulled from their departments are not straightened. It’s their fault since they pulled the associate in the first place. I hate it since it means I get blamed for not having work done in my department. Yet the dumb managers can’t see how stupid it is to pull from other departments. Not to mention when someone asks me where something is in another department I don’t know where every single item is since I don’t usually work there. Then the customer treats me like I’m the dumb one when they don’t describe the item well and say, “Never mind I’ll find it myself…I thought you would know.” Treating me like I’m stupid just because they suck at describing the item.

Then customers assume we have all the same things when we don’t and different Kyle’s carry different products. The online website and in store are different and unless online is the salespersons area they aren’t going to know how it works. Also, there are third parties on Kyle’s website, and people complain about that when Kyle’s doesn’t have any control over it.

Don’t ask a sales associate about the website, and stop being lazy and look for yourself in store. Sometimes the website is not accurate since it takes 24 hours to register it. Hell, a customer can even leave it on a shelf and have it in their cart.

People act like they can’t help themselves…they can.

Inventory is also wrong, and people call up the fitting room and other areas thinking they have a catalogue of items in their store when they don’t. I can’t look up anything unless I have the universal product code, and that is the ten digit number that is associated with an item. I can also put in a code, and scan it when it doesn’t have a price on there, and even when it does have one a person will still ask if it’s the price...yes, it is what else will it be? Why does it have 4.00 on it? Come on it’s the price dumbass.

It’s a job that requires talking to people and showing them merchandise. A job that requires answering stupid questions like a customer wanting to know the price when it’s right in front of them, and directing them to the items they are in front of. Times like those I want to slap the person for acting like a dumbass about it.

I have stories for every section I’ve worked in, and I’m going to share it with you. Sit back relax, and enjoy the ride since these are stories that will laugh, entertain you, and make you never want to work retail ever. There is also a special section for how not to treat a sales associate and tips. I’ve even got a guide to help you around the store so you won't look like a dumbass. I don’t think this way of all customers just the stupid ones, and ones who are lazy and rude.

If you have worked retail you will know my pain, and for those of you that haven’t I hope it will be a real eye-opener on how not to treat someone, and you can see the crazy customers a sales associate will encounter on a day to day basis…I hope you will learn to be nicer to the person behind the counter too, and don’t say I’m being rude in here and I should get another job since I will have another one.

It will also help you see why retail associates can be rude and nasty to you since they get shit on by the general public every time they wear the dreaded uniform.

Also, never say these phrases to a sales associate:

“I’ll give you something easy.” Because you think I’m stupid because I work retail?

“I just have a quick question…” that you could have answered yourself had you looked on the last aisle, and you just had to interrupt me while I was with another customer too. I mean come on.

“Do you happen to know?” No, I don’t know shit now fuck off, and never ask me like that again.

“Can I ask you for a favor?” No, we aren’t friends bitch. Don’t say that to me.

“Item.” Not even an excuse me? Or hi? Some people ask this while talking to their friends, and not even bother talking to me directly. Fuck you by the way since if you need my help at least treat me like a person.

“I know you don’t work in the area but…” I don’t care since if I don’t work there then I might not know where the item is.

“Oh, are you waiting for me?” No, dumbass I was waiting for my shift to end so I can go home, and not be around stupid assholes.

“Are you open?” Why the fuck do I have my light on? And why am I behind the register if I’m not open?

“You look like you are bored/need something to do…” No, I’m not bored thanks for being an asshole.

“Let me put you to work and make you do your job.” Because I wasn’t doing it before?

One dumbass wanted to say I was doing nothing since I told him I could not work on his watch since it wasn’t one we carried. I was putting away a cart of shoes actually.

Please stop thinking your clever saying these phrases, and I get it I look like I’m 12 but you don’t need to treat me like I am.

I see day to day how people behind the counter get treated, and I’m sick of it. I should not be coming home crying or ranting because of a rude customer who could not get their way. I should not have to deal with being run around ragged because the managers expect us to have super powers. I shouldn’t be treated like I’m not a human being because I work retail. I’m human too, and I make mistakes too like everyone else. My head should not be bitten off because another person put the item in the wrong spot, or stole something and it’s my fault the other shoe is missing.

The people who say the customer is always right clearly haven’t worked with the general public before.









Chapter 2: Shoes and Accessories/Apparel Stories:

It is a typical day as I clock in, and I make my way to the fitting room to check the schedule. I go get the piece of paper and look at my name. Shoes, accessories, jewelry...the usual shit I do every damn day yet the managers treat me like I can’t do it at all. Or, that I need to be taught how to do my job. Or that I’m not doing enough for them and need to work on my productivity since they expect us to have super powers. Ms.Sniffles is Laura but I call her that thanks to her attitude, and she is famous for that. She is a rude person at times being short with those she works under. Barking orders like we are dogs.

At Kyle’s on the floor I get asked a ton of stupid questions during my shift like where is the bathroom when it’s right in front of the customers. I get treated like I don’t have a brain since the customer describes to me what she is looking for like she thinks I’m stupid and can’t comprehend anything.

I countdown to my shift being over. It’s busier during the holidays with people trying on clothes, getting stuff for their family, and buying gifts. Then there are endless lines, and associates getting pulled to the registers after they don’t schedule enough people. And I find myself hating life and wanting to hit the person treating me like shit.

A series of questions come at me like:

“Oh, can you do me a favor and help me find…?” Sure, it’s right in front of your face.

“Oh, can you help me get an item out of the case..?” Then makes the key turning gesture as if I don’t know what a key is when I do.

“Do you have the key?” Yes, I do. Why else am I standing in the area straightening up the sunglasses you just threw on the floor.

“I need to know the price on this…” Even though it’s right in front of you….

“Oh, I have a quick question…” It’s anything but quick, and stop making it overly long and complicated. It’s not hard for me to use my brain unlike you.

“Item over-described….do you know what I’m talking about…?” Nope since you suck at describing items like you think I’m stupid and can’t understand basic English.

“Do you have….you did on the website, or in another store…?” Of course, it’s different then the website since it takes 24 hours to be updated. Don’t ask me how long I’ve been working here either if you ask for an item that only another store carries. Fuck you.

A guy asked where the photo center is, and then asked if he can print photos. Duh dumbass it’s what you do in a photo center.

Also, some dumbass told me to know my products better when his ass wasn’t paying attention to the fact that some boxes of shoes actually said steel toe, and blamed it on me not pointing out the obvious. It was right there on the box in bold lettering dumbass no need to be an asshole since it’s called reading.

“Where is the bathroom?” I don’t know try the place with the sign that says restroom dumbass. I mean really? The stores have signs pointing to where shit is for a reason.

“Where is the greeting cards?” Seriously? You fucking passed it at the entrance here dumbass.

Even some questions the customer can answer themselves by just fucking looking…and I have to literally point to it like they are too stupid to use their brains.

No we don’t have that shoe since we stopped carrying that years ago. Yes, I know what you are talking about, but we don’t have it anymore see if I’m lying all you want...

I take carts customers left in the aisles so it can be out of the way, and if it’s in the way the customers will move it themselves. I pick up the shoes the customers leave all over the floor. I just saw someone leave a pair of shoes on the floor in front of me. Here bitch let me pick up the shoes you tried to leave in front of me like you could not be bothered to put it back where you found it.

4 hours left after lunch, 2 hrs 51 minutes or less. I hope it goes by faster since on days we don’t have freight it’s boring as shit with nothing but straightening up stuff. Not to mention the customers think we are doing nothing.

I count the hours I have left down because I hate being here maybe I should turn myself in and get out of this mess? Fuck Kyle’s since they treat you like shit.

I hate Kyle’s General Store with a passion.

I get treated with looks of pity and snapped at even though I’m just saying hi, and asking them if they need help. It makes me more miserable as the day goes on and the general public just shits on me continuously. They treat me like they think I don’t know what a tie pin is, and ask me if I know what they are talking about describing items to me like they think I can’t comprehend basic speaking skills. I count down the minutes and it seems like forever. Get stuff from customer service people return to put back on the floor, and take up items to the front since people leave shit they don’t want in other departments.

It’s draining...Especially answering the phones, fitting room, jewelry, shoes accessories, and only having 3 people on the floor. I’m answering phones, opening rooms, and having customers count items to me very slowly like they are insulting my intelligence and my ability to count. Customers continue to be rude and talk on their cell phones when they need my help treating me like I’m not there.

One guy who could not speak English had his items and showed them to me one by one, and spoke slowly to me like he didn't think I was smart. Fuck you asshole.

I answer more stupid questions, and take customers to aisles in front of them. I take them to the shoes they are looking for when all they have to do is walk a few aisles over. Guy was too lazy to walk a few feet to the flip flops, and wanted me to walk him to it. I work there so I know everything apparently. Some dumbasses don’t pay attention to your words. Saying hi all day to every person is draining since they ignore you and say hi like I was forcing them to.

I say hi and be nice, but the customer ignored me and said just looking as if I’m a bug nothing more. I’m not a person to them, and they don’t even be nice about asking where an item is they just say item, or yell it at me.

They might as well treat me like a robot or someone not there. They give me looks when I approach them as if I should not bother talking to them.

An old dude was in the women’s slippers, and held up one asking if we had them for men, and I walked him to the other side of the shoes where the men’s slippers are.. Then I wondered how the fuck he drove when he can’t even find shoes in a retail store. I mean does he need help just to drive too? Unbelievable. It’s one of those busy Saturdays full of people who can’t read signs and are too lazy to look.

Some dumbass had me walk him to the health and beauty aides, and point out the White Diamonds to him. I told him no, that we didn’t have a bigger size that it’s all we had. He had me point it out to him since according to him he was blind and could not see. Then he said okay I want it and handed it to me, and then he got me to ring him up like he didn't want to wait in line with everyone else. Then I rang him up, and prayed that he didn't drive since he was blind. I mean really? I hope to god he didn’t drive if he was as blind as he said he was.

A girl was a smartass with me because I didn’t work in the health and beauty aids and wanted help since she could not find what she was looking for. She wanted to know if we had something. I don’t know where it is since I don’t work in the area. Then she told me, “Well can you get someone that does know,” said in a smartass tone that suggested she thought I was an idiot just because I don’t know everything in the entire store. Then she gave me shit since she found it herself. I get it you customers think employees are idiots and you love pointing it out when they are wrong.

More of me waiting until my shift is over with, and daydreaming about getting a better job that didn’t make me want to put a bullet in my brain.

I show customers jewelry even though half of them are just looking, and wasting my time when I could be doing something else like putting away more shoes. Or cleaning up messes the asshole customers left since they don’t know how to clean up after themselves. They think it’s our job to clean up after adults who should know better. People are rude to me in uniform since they are the customer which means they can treat me like shit.

I ask people looking at the cases if they need help even though some of them are browsing. One person has their face on the glass counters and their hand prints too. I hate it since I just cleaned it.

“Oh, I’ll buy something later,” said a customer leaning on the glass and making finger prints on my already clean counter. Putting his nose to the glass as if he can go through it. He can’t and every time, I ask someone if they need help they either ignore me, or say they are just looking in a rude way.

Dude comes up to me looking for shoes since his feet are swollen. I show him what he was looking for even though I’m busy. Then he asked if the shoes look bad on his feet I say no. Dipshit goes are you sure yes. Then he asked if we had a bigger size, and I show him it then he asked if they looked bigger. Nope. They are two different sizes, and it depends on the sandal. The whole time he was comparing them he kept asking me questions not even bothering to read the size in the corner. Then he liked the house shoes, and asked if he could wear them outside. Yes, but they are house shoes. Then he asked if there are different sizes, and at one point asking how I knew the size. I mean it says it in a corner. He was such a pain in the ass with his questions, and I was putting away shoes. I thought at one point he went away, but he stayed there and kept bothering me. Finally he decided on a pair, and he asked me to put them away for him. No shit I will I don’t want to leave the shoes on the floor dumbass. I check his ass out thankful to be done with it. It’s annoying, and he was so out of it I hoped he wasn’t driving.

I ask another person if they need help only for them to tell me in a minute then they walk away. I try to be nice to customers, but some of them treat us like we are bugs stepped on their shoe. Like they would rather have their teeth pulled then talk to me.

When my shift is done I go home, and drink myself to sleep then do it all over again. I get so drunk that I forget about all the horrors of the day. I forget why I wanted this stupid retail job in the first place, forget about school, and just focus on getting incredibly tanked to forget about my stalking ex and shitty love life. I’m a miserable retail person, and that is all I will ever be…

It has it’s days where there is nothing to do but zone as in straighten up, and sometimes there is items in boxes for days. Then items that need to be rearranged since they are messed up by assholes. There is no magical back either. Managers get rid of items, and move displays to the back if company comes around.

Kyle’s store is a drag, and I must be there till I graduate college. I go to school part time and work full time. It sucks being there 4 days a week luckily South Bend University has online classes, and I’m really close to getting my degree. The events in AngelWitch make me leave Kyle’s sooner, and this book is to pass on what I’ve learned in my 5 years at Kyle’s. Above all I’ve learned to tune everything out you have to in order to survive retail.

I put up stock items daily, and make sure to follow all the dumbass rules they put in place. Some of the rules the managers and even some supervisors pull out of their ass. An example is when I was writing down a note the stupid visor Salem told me I could not do it while I’m doing freight. Okay, Salem can just stop being so difficult. It’s not like he has anything better to do. He is banging the girl assistant manager over us, and that is why he has a job. Despite there being a no Kyle store supervisor and assistant manager banging each other. Ms. Sniffles just loves Salem and his model good looks...Salem was a model before working at Kyle’s and he was in the Crystal Crest realm papers but wound up being out of a job after the agent he had quit. Now he is just a stupervisor. And a stupid one that has to get me since I can do more things he can’t do. I can do my job and so can my co-workers better then he can.

If you don’t follow all their dumbass Kyle’s rules then you get counseled which is their version of getting in trouble, and if you get 4 then you are fired…Go ahead fire me I really don’t give a shit anymore. I stopped caring when I realized this place was a joke. Kyle is nothing but a horrible ass kissing jerk.

Some retail stores are nothing but a joke since the work is so easy a stupid monkey can do it. Kyle’s is nothing but a wasteland full of broken dreams, and promises of more hours then having them taken away by Kyle’s ruthless no over time system. Even 5 minutes over leads to a coaching. It’s a sad wasteland and it seems to get worse every shift. Less people, and more are getting fired for stupid reasons. One of the nice employees quit because the idiots counseled him for violating the dress code. It’s bullshit reasons, and I’ve been counseled for leaving trash in the area. The bitchy Rebecca who I hate with a passion, and wish I could light her on fire.

“Don’t ever let me hear that come out of your mouth. The customer comes first.” Said Rebecca even though it took her 15 minutes to walk her fat ass to the safe for a customer order.

Also, just because we don’t have an item doesn’t mean we don’t know what it is. Some asshole said he was looking for a church shirt with long sleeves, and kept repeating himself. Trying to show me examples like I was stupid. I know it is a long collared shirt with long sleeves. We don’t have them during the spring and summer just the winter and fall. I also told him everyone knows what a long sleeved shirt is. He kept saying you know what I’m talking about right? I do asshole, but we don’t have it.

It can be boring when there isn’t any merchandise to put away, and at least with putting merchandise away the shift goes by faster. Working on the sales floor does come with its own challenges especially if you walk into times when they change things around. Remodel is a mess when that happens. Then things are being put in another spot and the customer is mad that their favorite brand of hot sauce is moved around. They blame Kyle’s store employees as if it’s their fault when really it’s Kyle’s. He is to blame since he acts like he knows what he is doing when he doesn't.

Remodeling sucked ass since it was hard to tell what was going where until it stopped being changed around. Some of the registers were not working so I had to be on the jewelry register some of my shift to get the lines down. One of the few times I actually liked Rebecca. It was a nightmare, and the customers blamed us as if it was my fault and I made the rules. I can’t tell where it all is moved to if I don’t have a say in the move. At least we got self-checkout.

One day I was working on the sales floor about ready to get the items from the fitting room to put back on the floor, and there was a lady with blonde hair that looked like it was crimped. Blue eyes, a tan and she was with her daughter carting things around. She spotted me when I was putting items away, and asked where the clearance bras are, and the thing is we did a change recently, and there used to be a whole aisle filled with clearance items. Not anymore since it had to be moved around. Like the shoes used to have a clearance area, and now it doesn’t. I tried to find out where it went to and they did move it. The blonde customer got mad because she was looking around with me and not finding it. JJ looked with me, and we looked like idiots when we tried to find it for them, and the customer thought we lied about it saying we said there was a whole aisle. The issue was the managers changed it around and got rid of it, and if we did have it then it might have been moved to the lawn and garden where we kept all the rest of the clearance. JJ asked the blonde if she wanted her to walk with her, and the customer said no in a nasty way that she will find it herself. I’m not the one who moved it bitch, and getting mad at me when I didn’t do shit it why I hate dealing with rude customers. I can breathe wrong and the customers will get mad and offended over it. Seriously, Kyle’s sucks...but I don’t have to deal with it for long anyway.

Customers love taking it out on me when they can’t find something. They think I’m an idiot, and that is why I dread it every time I walk in Kyle’s General Store. I have to prepare myself to get shit on.

Every time I walk in I can see the despair on the customers faces, and getting them to even be nice is like pulling teeth. And the looks they give you is unreal like they think they are better than you when half of them can’t find shit for themselves. Especially the customers with Bluetooth headsets in they act like they are so important just because they spend money, and in a way they are, but that doesn’t give them the right to be rude.

I don’t go out of my way to be rude to the associates since I work retail, and I know what they go through. I’m a customer too since I get a discount thanks to working there. That is why I wish the customers were nicer since we are customers too technically. We spend money there more then the customers at times, and when I get off I actually shop there. It’s convenient for me, and I get to use my discount. The point of the book is showing people that people behind the counter are human we have wants and needs too. We don’t deserve to be treated like shit either just because we work there since we shop there too.

Customers ask for the price of an item when it’s right on the tag, then they ask us to read it to them like they can’t read. They can just read it themselves though, and see it.

As for the merchandise changing around one section could be filled with one item, and the next it’s changed with something else. The managers and home office change the merchandise around every so often especially when the seasons change, and it’s two seasons ahead.

Nothing sales associates have any control over so back off, and stop bitching about them changing things around.

I love it when people get mad and take it out on the sales associate since it’s not our fault. Everything is our fault, and some of them take it out on us since we are a face of the company to them and they want to bitch at someone.

Also with shoes, you need to make sure things are in the right spot or else they will think a 29-dollar shoe is really a 25 dollar one.

I had a guy go into detail about an older model shoe costing more than the newer shoe model, and the whole time customers explain it they treat us like we could not read. They will also go into detail as to why they are right, and you are wrong since they feel they are the customer which means they are right…. That’s bullshit actually since they use it as an excuse to belittle and berate you.

Customers can be stupid when it comes to retail. You also really need to keep track of different shoes and styles if you work in that department because I’ve actually had to help a customer keep track of shoes in comparing the differences. He didn’t know the difference between them, and he expected me to tell him it. I mean if you want to know the difference between a product look at the tag, box, and the shoe. Its shoes not rocket science it’s also a personal thing too. I also have different style choices and I don’t like to help people in deciding which shoe is best since it depends on the person.

Plus, customers get so lazy they put shit wherever, and one time I caught some bitch who put an item on a shelf that didn’t belong there, and then as I go to pick it up she grabbed it and said she would do it okay…whatever. No, you weren’t unless I said something since you were going to leave it there lying bitch.

I also get asked to clean up ladies, lingerie, men’s, infants and girls from time to time even though I was not hired for that area. They sometimes don’t have enough people so I had to learn the area very quickly, and god forbid that I didn’t know where everything is. Customers love to treat you like they don’t think you know what basic items are it’s hard to keep track of every little thing especially the different clothes. One lady thought I didn’t know what tights were, and she was right in the area. Just walk a few feet and it’s right there in front of her. Customers think we are stupid just because we work retail, and it’s annoying.

No, I’m not going to know if another store has it unless I call them, and we don’t have a system that allows us to see if another store has it. Not ours. If a customer wants to know if another store has it we can sometimes call them. Some stores don’t even answer us, or they are nasty.

Forget it if it doesn’t have a tag since that is what we use to scan to find the item in the “back.” I will talk about that bullshit in another section. We don’t have a magical back though.

I hate dealing with items we move especially with idiots like this:

Woman: Do you work in this area often? A blonde haired woman asked while rifling through the clothes like the item is just going to appear right before her eyes...

Me: I work everywhere. (cause I do..)

Her: Well, I’m looking for a Batman shirt that’s a tank. (Ok, treat me like I’m stupid, and don’t know what a shirt or tank is. For that matter treat me like I don’t know what Batman looks like.) I work retail which means I’m a dumbass.

I look in the area, and it’s not there. I told her if we had it then it would be in this area. Or here or here. All I see are the T-shirts. But I just got it yesterday she said. The problem was they moved them to the back, and they needed the space, and now as I’m writing this they are on the floor.

I walk away after that not wanting to deal with her blaming me on moving items when it wasn’t my fault. The funny thing is they are probably on a rack somewhere in clearance to make way for winter or fall.

Things can change so fast it’s not even funny especially if the managers need the space for another item. I love how it’s the sales associates fault when they move the items since they don’t decide what gets moved around or not.

It can be a pain in the ass to deal with retail customers since they can be difficult to deal with.

Then there is this guy who wants an item at another store:

Do you have this shoe? No.

But they had it in the other one.

Then go there because different store locations carry different products.

I know what I’m talking about asshole I’ve been working here long enough to know what brands we carry.

I’ve also found items stuck on shelves that don’t belong.

A lady wanted to know the difference between coffee pots, and wanted a manager for it. Like it matters since it’s caffeine anyway. They expect to be babied, and have items explained to them like we are supposed to sell them. Nope, not that type of store since it’s a discount store.

One day in shoes a person was trying on a pair of them, and that someone took a pair of socks out of the package to try them on, and they left the socks there without planning to buy them. It was annoying finding it because one sock was left on the peg, and the package was left on the floor. I get it they don’t have those socks to try shoes on, but come on if you are going to take something out of the package then buy them. Don’t leave them since we can’t sell them a certain way, and we have to claim them out. I hate the people who do that.

If that isn’t bad enough I’ve found shoelaces outside of the package wrapped around a cart.

I would never go to your house and mess up items, or go to your job and treat you the way you treat me like a slave. Or, I’ll come to your office and leave my trash all over the place, since I’ve seen outside empty drinks left on a shelf.

One day a guy praised me for knowing what a bandana was when I was in the accessories… I thought everyone knew what a bandana was, and apparently not. I do wonder if customers think sales associates are really that stupid…. No wonder why they insult me all the time…

Another dumbass couldn’t understand the difference between the shoe brands, and he didn’t get the fact that some of them don’t come in a wide. Some products are made by different companies. Or, they will ask me if we have a certain size shoe without looking themselves, and then I’ll have to act like a good sales associate, and help them pick out their own shoes. It sucks helping someone out since my tastes are different then the next person. A grown adult should not need help picking out their own shoes.

I had to find a customer a travel bag one day, and I did my best instead he said, “But that is for women.” And the other time I attempted. “But that is a garment bag.” Sometimes you can’t please anyone. Fuck the rude ass customers since they are not always right.

A lady asked me where the stockings are so low I had to have her repeat it. I mean lady talk to me normally not like you think I’m stupid. I told her I know what they are, and I walked her to it since she will be the type to complain if I don’t. After I led it to her like she was a child, she makes a snotty remark, “Well, you looked at me like you didn’t know what I was talking about…” And you were talking to me so low that I could not hear you, and no need to be a bitch over it.

Don’t say item. Be nice and say can you please help me find…I mean come on I don’t go to you and say that so stop treating me like shit when you ask for where an item is…

The sales floor is interesting since here are some of the things I’ve seen, and customers do try to take tags off merchandise to steal it. I’ve found a ton of tags on the floor of stolen merchandise too. Don’t ever say they don’t do it since I’ve seen it happen too often to not pay attention to people.

Customers do take things off shelves, decide they don’t want it, and put it in the wrong spot. I hate that the most. It seems like customers are too lazy to put it back where they have found it. Or some of the mobile carts are left there, and we must get them out of the way.

Refrigerated stuff spoils. and when customers are horrible enough to not leave it in a refrigerated place it has to go back to claims since it’s a spoiled item which costs the company money. Thanks by the way, at least put it in a spot where it can still be usable so another person can buy it instead.

Shoes are sometimes a mess with boxes are all over the place. Sometimes I’ll come in and find shoes totally trashed with stuff in the aisles. Stuffing on the floor, and shoes lying on the ground when someone tried it on but did not bother to pick it up. Hell, they have even left it near the jewelry counter since they probably think it’s our job to clean up after them like we are their babysitters.

I’ve had a few idiots check out at the jewelry counter and leave their cart in front of it as if it’s our job to put it back when it’s just right there. Sometimes I want to say to a few of them that they forgot their empty cart, and they can’t be bothered to put it back. The carts are right as you come in too. It’s not hard to leave it at the front. Or is it my job to clean up after you period? It’s not hard at all to be a decent human being is it?
